Bedroom Blackout Blinds
For bedroom windows, first considerations are often privacy and blackout blinds. Grants blackout blinds can come in the form of ZIP roller blinds with side channels, roller blinds with blackout fabric, Honeycell Duette® and blackout-lined Roman blinds. These products vary in effectiveness, providing dim-out to total blackout solutions - depending on the level of blackout required.
The Master Bedroom in new build projects, often has feature windows, sliding doors, gables and sometimes even skylights. Blackout blinds can be provided for all these glazing areas provided they are considered at the earliest stages of the project.
To achieve a high level of darkness in the bedroom, side channels are needed to reduce light ingress. These side channels can be recessed or concealed inside a frame around the window, to achieve the best aesthetic results.

Specifically written for homeowners and architects looking for that wow factor when it comes to blackout blind solutions.
Motorised blackout blinds are increasingly popular allowing the homeowner to operate the blinds remotely as and when required. Concealed blinds need to be motorised and high-level blackout blinds will require larger concealment boxes/frames than conventional blinds.
Depending on the size and shape of the window as well as the blind product chosen, different sized headboxes and side boxes can be incorporated. Unusual shaped windows often require larger boxes to stop light ingress but also to retain the feature shape of the window.
Full-width blackout blinds will be more effective in reducing the light than a number of small blinds, giving an increased opportunity for light to penetrate. At Grants, we specialise in and manufacture our own wide width blind solutions for this reason.
Blackout Blinds Frequently Asked Questions
+ Can blackout blinds be motorised?
Yes, we recommend motorisation so blinds can be concealed and operated remotely. Motors are hidden inside the roller blind tube or the blind headrail.
+ What colours and product choices are available for blackout blinds?
Mostly roller or Honeycell Duette® type blinds are used and a wide selection of colours are available - greys and neutral colours are most popular.
+ How wide can you make a blackout blind?
We regularly make single blinds up to 4.5m wide. Wider widths are possible with custom solutions.
+ How large concealment boxes are required to hide the blackout blind?
The space required to hide the blackout blind will vary depending on the size and shape of the window as well as the blind product chosen.
+ Can blackout blinds be retro-fitted?
Yes. Grants specialise in solutions where even in a retro-fit situation blinds are concealed behind pelmets but appear when needed.
